Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) as addiction treatment
National Geographic magazine has an interesting article on TMS for addiction treatment... Talks about Italian Psychiatrist Luigi Gallimberti and how he's having some success using electromagnetic pulses to the brain to help addicts get (and stay) clean.
The article does a great job reiterating the truth about addiction: that it NOT a moral failing... but a brain disease... and there are various scientists around the world doing studies involving TMS.
So much has been discovered regarding neuroscience and addiction...
“In a sense, addiction is a pathological form of learning,” says Antonello Bonci, a neurologist at the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
And it's the hope of addiction specialists like Gallimberti that through new scientific studies and breakthroughs, struggling addicts will be able to find long-term solutions...and freedom.
