FDA approves first medication to reduce opioid withdrawal symptoms

Interesting news about the FDA approving first medication that is supposed to reduce opioid withdrawal symptoms.

It's Lofexidine, and it's an oral tablet.... will be marketed under the brand name LUCEMYRATM. Supposed to be available end of summer.

The report says it's not a "treatment" for opioid addiction, but a short-term (14 days) strategy to help decrease the god-awfulness of withdrawal symptoms. It's to be a part of a "broader, long-term treatment plan".

We shall see how it helps.
