Finding Happiness After Personality Disorder Diagnosis

A personality disorder diagnosis can leave you feeling lost, overwhelmed, and full of emotion. On one hand, it’s a start to an explanation of the way you’ve been feeling, whether you had an inkling or not for the outcome. On the other hand, it’s a label, it carries stigma, it’s tough to deal with.

Let’s focus on the positives though. With diagnosis you get to educate and research everything about what you’ve been going through. Instead of wondering between the many issues you could have been facing, now you’ve got it looking right back at you.

Sure, it’s a little scary. There will be doctors and therapists, appointments, and maybe medications. You might have to work a little harder than others at happiness, relationships, work, school, and life in general. That’s all true. But, you don’t have to fight it alone, there’s millions of others who’ve been through exactly what you’re going through and millions more who will do it after you.

Don’t be afraid to fight for happiness. This is the rest of your life after all! Dealing with the overly intense emotions you may feel is no easy feat. But, if you learn now how to cope in healthy ways and do things to better your life and add in a little positivity, there’s no reason you can’t succeed in life as a person with BPD.

Make sure to get the support you need by going to therapy, talking openly about what you’re going through with friends and family, and go to support groups if you can or you need to. There’s nothing stronger than coming together within a community of others who know exactly what you’re going through.
