Finding the Right Inpatient Dual Diagnosis Treatment Program

When facing a dual diagnosis, it is imperative to find the right treatment program, or the problems are likely to plague you your entire life. There are specific things you need to look for, or ask about, in order to make sure you are getting the right treatment. Here are a few things to keep in mind.

The first, and most important, point you need to focus on is how the treatments will work. You need to make sure that both of the treatments are going to parallel, allowing them to seamlessly work together and teach you how to control and cope with the issues you are facing. If you are fighting an addiction with a treatment that requires you to be on addictive medication, this could be counter-productive. Your doctor should be able to help you get your treatments lined up to help you cope with both issues at once.

Next, you will need to know what type of support your treatment program offers. Some dual diagnosis programs allow outside support, while others only have you interacting with the counselors in the program. Each program has different requirements and guidelines in place to keep the residents moving toward a successful completion of the program, so knowing this ahead of time will let you know what to expect.

Finally, you will want to make sure that you are able to cover the cost of the program. Some inpatient facilities accept insurance, while others do not. Some also have scholarships and payment plans available, so make sure you ask about how payments can be arranged, so you know if the facility will work for your needs or not.
