Common Reasons Men in Rehab Struggle with Recovery

Both men and women sometimes struggle while in recovery, but there are some reasons that apply more to men than anyone else. If you are about to go through rehab, or you have a man in your life that is going through rehab, knowing why they may struggle can sometimes help you know what to be on the lookout for so you can help. Here are a few of the most common reasons men tend to have struggles while going through rehab:

Men tend to let their support network think they are doing alright, when in fact, they are struggling. Men are not often good at admitting when they need help, making rehab difficult. The best way to avoid this is to always let the man know you are there should he need it, and keep in touch often with how he is doing.

Men tend to prefer distraction to dealing with sensitive issues. There are not very men who are good at facing personal issues (or women for that matter), but men tend to talk about those issues less freely than women. If the man in your life is needing a distraction, there is usually a reason why.

Men tend to hold on to their friends more fiercely than women. To most, this loyalty is a great thing, but when it comes to keeping contact with users, it is not the best idea. When going through rehab, men must first be loyal to themselves, dealing with the rest later.
