Families Anonymous

Came across a newer 12 Step group geared for loved ones of addicts and alcoholics.

Families Anonymous. It's based on the same type of steps that other 12 Step groups focus on. It's just less specific when it comes to a particular drug or addictive behavior. For example, whether your loved one is addicted to cocaine, alcohol, porn, gambling, and so on, you are welcome at families Anonymous. There you will be able to begin a journey to really focus on yourself , rather than on the addict.

There are not quite as many meetings in the US, but there are over 500 meetings in the US and around the world.  There are some online e-meetings too. You can check out their website to see if there is a meeting near you and to find out more information.

"FAMILIES ANONYMOUS is a 12 Step fellowship for the families and friends who have known a feeling of desperation concerning the destructive behavior of someone very near to them, whether caused by drugs, alcohol, or related behavioral problems."

  • Good to know this, @dominica! I don't think there can ever be enough support groups for families of people who are struggling with addiction. They are like lighthouses on the shore of a stormy sea. :)
